Phase 2 Coordination Post

General Overview:

Once Shibusen had confirmed that Witches were involved in the disappearances, Death City's first Guest Deathscythe pair were deployed to San Pedro de Atacama to investigate. There wasn't a trace of the Witches themselves to be found (they knew there would be a rescue attempt: there's always a rescue attempt). What they found there were former allies of Shibusen who seemed to be acting under the influence of a localized but incredibly concentrated amount of Madness Wavelength. Concentrated enough, in fact, that they were regaining abilities that had been sealed by BREW.

That presented a bit of a dilemma in that, with Erinyes still active within Death City, it would be a risk to send out a large amount of people to go subdue these people and bring them back. Fortunately, the Watch got a not-so-anonymous tip and managed to break up a meeting being held by the terrorist group, managing to arrest core members of Erinyes as well as taking the wind out of its sails.

So now, with that obstacle out of the way, Shibusen can go forward with what it intended to do with out hesitation. We're bringing our comrades back, even if we have to drag them back kicking and screaming!

For those who were attacked: )

For those who are signing up to rescue people: )

As usual, please state any questions or concerns in the QUESTIONS thread and feel free to use this post to coordinate with each other.

Phase 1 Mod Post!

Hello, Soul Campaign!

So you'd gotten a bit of information aboput the July plot from the previous post. Our, ah, lucky candidates have been chosen, so now it's time to fill you in on Phase 1 of this plot.

General Overview of Phase 1:
Recently in the area surrounding San Martín de los Andes, Isla del Sol and San Pedro de Atacama, there have been reports of large, bird-like creatures attack and consuming humans. A request was sent out to Shibusen to deal with this threat and as a result 9 pairs of partners will leave Death City for these cities...and they won't be coming back (for now).

The characters will leave over a three day period.

On the first day, one pair will leave for each city respectively.

On the second day, the same happens. Except the first batch of mission goers who were supposed to be back are nowhere to be found...

On the third day, all pairs who left on Day 1 are declared MIA with the ones who left on Day 2 suspected to be missing. Everyone leaving for these three locations are followed by Shibusen personel.

No one returns from those missions and on the fourth day, more Shibusen personel are sent out to investigate. All the while, there are rumours of strange individuals rampaging through these three areas.

Finally the city will get some news, but it won't be pretty...

The following people will be leaving on the following days:

DAY 1: June 10th in-game DAY 2: June 11th in-game DAY 3: June 12th in-game
San Martín de los Andes (Argentina) Sendo Takeshi and Saya Takagi Tony Stark and Bruce Banner Atem and Eren Jaeger
Isla del Sol (Bolivia) Judai Yuki and Johan Andersen Six and Dr. Rebecca Holiday Meenah Peixes and The Psiioniic
San Pedro de Atacama (Chile) Minako Arisato Josuke Higashikata X (Sai) and Hades Akiha Tohno and Sion Eltnam Atlasia

And if that's confusing, here's a calendar with all the events written down.

Everyone who has been chosen must respond to this thread.

So...what happened to our characters?
The characters who left on the missions were attacked by Witches. The bird-like Kishin Eggs were not Kishin Eggs at all, but Witch familiars. They aren't aiming to kill the mission goers (except the nameless NPCs sent by Shibusen to accompany everyone on day 3). That doesn't mean they aren't above breaking a few limbs however, should they meet resistance. They only need you alive, after all, to run some quick tests, to see what kind of interesting powers BREW has brought into this world. But creating a large amount of Madness Wavelength similar to the kind let off by the Kishin is not easy task.

So they don't try. Instead, they will put a chip in the characters, just under the skin. It works as a small, localized Madness Emitter. Instead of just emitting large amounts of Madness it also compresses it so that it becomes more potent. They will up the amount of Madness until your character shows some sign of having special abilities which they will study. If you don't have powers...well. Sucks to be you, they won't believe you and just keep upping the Madness until they can't any more.

Once they're done taking all the data, the Witches will leave their victims in the wilderness. They have no use for all of you now. But hey, at least they left the chip inside you as a little parting gift!

There will be a log for all those who are attacked to play out their Witch encounter in!

As usual, any questions or concerns can be addressed in the thread below.

Event Sign-up!

Salutations, Soul Campaign!

During June's mod post we mentioned that the bulk of the next plot will be occurring in July. We will actually be kicking off that plot during the last week of June. Before that though, we need to get some willing victims volunteers for the next plot!

For phase one of the next plot, characters who sign up for certain missions will find themselves attacked and subdued by Witches while they're abroad. What is their aim? Well, some time ago, the Kishin Asura had appeared near Death City, causing the Guests to go insane but also to regain a small fraction of their original powers (these will need to be approved once we have a definite list of candidates). That information has made its way to the ears of a Witch and she's interested to see if it's true...

Of course, the Witches don't know who has powers that BREW has suppressed, so feel free to sign up even if your character has no canon powers! Even if they have no canon-powers there is room for them to participate in this event as well. (Besides, it won't stop the Witches from doing whatever they had planned anyway.)

The missions will be OOCly assigned to the volunteers who are chosen so don't worry about signing up for something by accident! ICly, these characters would have signed up for the missions at the Mission Board.

This means that the characters will be gone from Death City for a few in-game days (but there will be a log for those who wish to log out the encounter with the Witch).

Due to the nature of this phase of the plot characters must be signed up as pairs because there are no missions for single characters. However, your character does not need a permanent partner for you to sign them up! All they need is someone to go on a mission with, so this mission is also open to all new characters as well.

Your characters will also play a larger role during the second phase of the plot which begins on the day change of June 16th which is July 19th to 22nd OOCly. Please be aware of that before you sign up.

There are up to 9 slots open for this event (so since there is a maximum of nine pairs being picked there can be 18 characters chosen.) If we get more volunteers than that, we will decide using RNG.

As usual, feel free to voice any concerns in the Questions thread!

Rescue Operation Coordination

Greetings, Soul Campaign!

Those that have gone missing have been found! That evening, Azusa held a meeting in one of Shibusen's classrooms for those interested in joining the final rescue operation, and informed them of the following:

-The captors are civilians all under the same banner, adorned in robes and venetian masks. It's heavily suspected that they may be the ones behind the current riots and anti-Shibusen picketing.

-The captives are under heavy guard in a forgotten tunnel system connected to the sewers. Investigation teams have discovered two entrances into this tunnel system, where the operation will head in and also flank the perpetrators. With the enemy occupied, a third team goes in to get the captives out.

-Mirrors will be placed and directed straight to the clinic. Medics will be on standby on the other side for immediate treatment of captives and fighters. Paramedics may also head in with the operation for emergency purposes and to ensure transport of the injured.

-With cooperation from the Death City Police Department, the goal is to subdue and arrest the masked individuals, and get our missing comrades back. Azusa will stress that these are civilians, don't turn this into a slaughter. However... self-defense is expected. (But that won't stop some of you, will it?) Live suspects = interrogations.

-Traps are undoubtedly littered around the tunnels, crude yet effective. Never underestimate human ingenuity. Proceed with caution. The operation will proceed on the morning of the 13th, with general clean-up of the tunnels for evidence taking place for a few days afterward. After which, interrogations may proceed.

This is your post for a little last-minute extra coordination before the big throwdown (remember: next day change is week-long!). Previous planning post is right here for reference! Will you be treating patients, whupping some tail, making arrests, disarming traps or hurrying a captive to safety?

Got a question? Leave a comment and we'll get to them ASAP!

Watch Shenanigans

With the recent spike in activity, The Watch has an increasing workload. Not only are they working to keep the guests of the city safe, but now with the picketing and rioting civilians, they're being called on to talk down, disperse, or in the worst case, subdue crowds and make arrests where possible. Needless to say, the city is in chaos, and as its protectors, it's the Watch's job to work to help restore order.

Shibusen will be lending additional agents given how short-staffed the Watch is currently, to aid in this. They're encouraged to try to talk them down and coordinate with the local police to handle the more trouble-making civilians as well as protect the non-combatants of the city.

It's a big job, and hopefully everyone's up for it. To maximize interaction and capitalize on this event, I'll be posting a big, city-wide log for everyone to tag into- non-members and members alike to defend or aid one another during this chaotic run.

Feel free to use this post for CR coordination!

Event Aftermath: Madness Emitters

The multi-month long campaign to destroy the Madness Emitters in proximity to Death City is finally over! This will have several wide-spreading effects that characters will be able to act on, so here's a little "State of the World" post following the past few in-game weeks.

(Are you one of our newcomers? Or are you an old player looking to refresh yourself on everything that happened these past few months? Check out the Event Summary page here!)

In or around Death City
► Thanks to the Witch attacks and also robots several streets and blocks in the city are totalled, especially in the Outer Residential Quarters where the guest residencies are located.
► The island which carried the Nocturne Bazaar is now a fixture outside Death City; for the time being, it remains a danger zone, and guests are prohibited from going near until Shibusen's teams can determine it's safe.
► Several streets in the Shopping District are taken up by colourful tents -- hundreds of refugees from the carnival displaced by the attack are currently setting up shop with what little they have left and trying to get by until something can be done for them.
► In the near future, guests who've taken up residency in the Creeping Crypts will be asked by Shibusen to relocate to Casualty Communal, in order to free up space for the refugees. If you have characters in the Crypts and would like to specifically request a new room in the Communal, please comment on the Residencies page to claim one! Otherwise, an announcement with a list of random reassignments will be made this Friday (the in-game date of April 8th.)
► The park is filled with rubble fallen from the Bazaar during the battle. Morning training (which still occurs daily, even though it’s only ICly logged once a month!) might be a little messy for some time.
► Attention, competitors in the Bazaar’s Beauty Pageant: the winners have been determined! And despite their troubles, the refugees have managed to salvage the rewards they had prepared for the victors. Kanji Tatsumi and Yako Katsuragi can expect to have somewhat scorched and battered-looking golden tiaras and a cool 500D$ each delivered to them on the in-game date of April 8th.

The world at large
► Madness levels all over North America are falling rapidly, and the need for Kid’s protective barrier around Death City has passed. Travel outside the city is now safer than ever (so if you were planning that trip to Las Vegas, now would be the time...)
► The situation in Europe, Africa, and Asia has not changed. Shibusen agents (including guests) will still be sent there for the occasional mission.
► Europe in particular has been experiencing some trouble with anti-Shibusen sentiments. Several riots have broken out and, though they’ve been quelled, it leaves some leaders in other countries wondering if the same problems will crop up there too...
► South America’s Madness levels, on the other hand, are rising dangerously; some witnesses report what appears to be a physical manifestation of the wavelength, as a sort of miasma. Travel there has been closed off for the time being.

And last, but not least... Have you heard? Your fearless leader’s Weapon partners have acquired the Witch souls they needed: Patti and Liz have ascended to Death Scythe status! Go give ‘em your congratulations! (But be sure to save some for two of your own who’re rapidly approaching that same goal...)

So what happened with your characters during the event? Feel free to talk about it in the comments below!

Event Coordination: Mission 156

Hot on the heels of the first one comes the second of three missions to destroy the Madness Emitters producing the worst of the Madness outside the city! And where the first one took your characters to deep, dank caves, this one will instead see them far, far above the ground.

The second of three Madness Emitters is located in Lake Tahoe, just on the border of Nevada and California. Specifically, it's been placed on the summit of Heavenly Mountain, which is home to a ski resort that was closed down less than a year ago due to suddenly unmanageable weather conditions. These effects were thought to be due to the rising levels of Madness everywhere, but now it's clear that it's because it was actually turned into an epicenter for the Wavelength.

Once transported to the slopes via mirror, the mission's objective is simply to reach the top by any means possible, defeating any hostiles along the way, and to destroy the Emitter proper.

The mission at a glance:
► The second of three missions will take place on the IC/OOC dates of March 27th/September 28th. This day change will last an entire week, to allow players the time to finish threads without having to rush!
► It will be classified as a 3-star mission, but like the last one, there will be a place for experienced and inexperienced pairs.
► Unpartnered fighters are welcome to join the fight again, and will be given mundane weapons to use if they don't have their own. They'll be able to take down threats that are NEITHER kishin eggs nor Witches, but will be ICly required to stay off the higher slopes.
► There will be a thread specifically for medics, and as always, they are free to act as runners/back-up muscle if they wish.
► Kishin eggs may be either NPCed by the player, or there will be volunteers available to stand-in if requested. See below!

What can my characters expect to face?
► Very snowy conditions, and an unnatural temperature of 15° F (-9° C) which will approach levels below 0° F (-18° F) the further you climb up the slope. Heavenly Mountain is at a base elevation of 6450 feet, with the mountain itself rising some 3500 feet on its own. Characters unused to high altitudes may find themselves tiring easily.
► In addition to the usual fauna that's been corrupted by the high levels of Madness (bears, mountain lions, and small pack of coyotes in this case) you can expect to find kishin egg yeti on the higher slopes. The almost tank-like yeti will be very difficult for inexperienced pairs to take down on their own, so these characters will be ICly required to avoid them (but not necessarily OOCly required…)
► The snowstorm itself is as much an obstacle. Visibility will be low, of course, and it tends to make some people see things that aren't actually there. The intense levels of Madness will only exacerbate the problem. The slopes are dotted with abandoned cabins and resort buildings to find and take shelter from the storm should it become unbearable, but watch your step -- there are no guardrails!
► There are several ways to get up the slopes: you can use the series of old lifts, if they don't look too rickety from disuse. You can play it safe with snowshoes. Or if you manage to stumble across one of the snowmobiles the ski patrols used to use and get it to work, that'd certainly do the trick…
► It's been confirmed that there is a Witch helping guard the summit, in response to the first Emitter's capture. The nature of her powers is currently unknown, but she is to be considered a major threat and avoided accordingly. Characters will not be able to go toe-to-toe with the Witch should they encounter her; the only option will be survival. Good thing your fearless leader's going to be joining you guys on this one, right?

Rewards:
3 Meister points / souls (for Meisters and Weapons, respectively)
750D$ per person
Weapons may choose not to eat their souls, but they cannot be traded amongst each other.
In order for your characters to receive the awards, you must at least provide a summary of what happened on the Mission Board (apologies for the confusion on the last discussion post!) A direct link to the thread you should reply to on the Board will be provided in the comments below.

You may use this post for pre-log plotting, putting together temporary pairs, and for volunteering to help NPC kishin eggs. Happy plotting!

Event Coordination: Mission 155

At long last, the source of the Madness directly outside Death City’s walls has been discovered: three Madness Emitters surrounding the city, closely guarded by Witch minions and kishin eggs. During three missions spread over the course of three in-game weeks, it’ll take everything Shibusen and its guests have got to put them out of commission and make it safe to travel outside Death City once more!

The first of three Madness Emitters is located in an underground cave system about sixty miles away from the city and is unfortunately only reachable through a long, flooded tunnel. Mission-goers will be transported via mirror to the canyon housing this tunnel entrance, and then it’s time to get their scuba gear on. Hopefully they all can swim!

Once inside, the mission’s objective is to clear the cave of kishin eggs and other hostiles so that Shibusen’s team of experts can safely dismantle the Madness Emitter. The reasons for such care are twofold: to ensure that the site cannot be easily recommissioned and so that the technology may be employed for a future project. It may sound simple enough, but the caves are suffused with very high levels of Madness, and there’s a host of threats besides kishin eggs to worry about...

The mission at a glance:

► The first of three missions will take place on the IC/OOC dates of March 18th / August 24th. This day change will last an entire week, to allow players the time to finish threads without feeling as if they need to rush!
► It will be classified as a 3-star mission, but there will be a place for both experienced and inexperienced pairs.
► Unpartnered fighters are more than welcome to join the fight! They’ll be given mundane weapons to use in battle, or they may bring their own if they have them. With those, they’ll be able to take down threats that are NEITHER kishin eggs nor Witches, but are strongly encouraged to go travel in groups with a partnered pair or pairs.
► There will be a thread specifically for medics and, as always, they are free to act as runners/back-up if they wish.
► Kishin eggs may be NPCed by the player, or there will be volunteers available to stand-in if requested. See below!

What can my characters expect to face?
Some visuals: 1 2 3 4 5
In addition to a host of kishin eggs, there will be a variety of wildlife that has been twisted by the high levels of Madness -- think moles, insects, snakes, all those creepy-crawlies. While the kishin eggs will be more suited for pairs to take out, skilled solo fighters will be able to take out the fauna without too much difficulty.
The closer to the source of the Madness, the stronger the monsters will become. Tread carefully, and know your limits (or don't!)
High levels of Madness. While Meisters with the Calming Wavelength will be present, everyone is still at a high risk of hallucinations, paranoia, and possibly friendly fire!
It's a dark, scary, watery, uncharted cave. Watch your step between all that fighting!

Rewards:
2 Meister points / souls (for Meisters and Weapons, respectively)
750D$ per person
Weapons may choose not to eat their souls, but they cannot be traded amongst each other.
Participation must be logged, or a summary provided on the Mission Board only, in order for characters to recieve their rewards. Handwaved participation will not count!

You may use this post for pre-log plotting, putting together temporary pairs, and for volunteering to help NPC kishin eggs. In a related note, if you would like one, please indicate in your post somehow that you’ll be wanting a kishin egg NPC for your thread. This’ll help us get a good idea of the numbers we need!

Thank you, and happy plotting!

Shibusen Pool Party

As Death the Kid mentioned, Shibusen is having a pool party, and your characters are all invited!

The details are as follows:
  • The event is hosted by Shibusen and will take place on the in-game date of March 7th, or next day change!

  • The party is taking place at the Death City Recreation Center, at the indoor pool.

  • The usual rules of conduct for public pools apply. (This does not mean, however, that your character(s) are the sort that follow the rules.

  • Characters are NOT allowed to bring alcohol to the party, since we have so many underage characters.

Please feel free to use this post to plot or organize some shenanigans. If you have any questions, please drop us a line in the questions thread below!

UPDATE: And the log is up! Have at it, partiers.

Intro Event!

Attention, Soul Campaign!

We've decided to do some last minute jumbling of the intro log for a bit of fun and variety. On the day that guests are supposed to arrive into Death City, a sandstorm will sweep through the city and for one reason or another, the BREW decides to have a small hiccup.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

While the intro log goes on, some new guests will actually end up in the city premises in the middle of the storm, and it will be up to you, our most trusted agents, to take them back to Shibusen for shelter (right up the stairs, too).

We don't want to disrupt previously planned encounters in the intro log, however, so apart from some changes in agenda, the welcome tour will continue as planned. What will change?

Well, for one thing, there won't be any AROUND SHIBUSEN thread, since the city will be in a storm. The CASUALTY COMMUNAL thread will also be gone, and people will need to sleep in the Shibusen dorms for the night. The SOUL PERCEPTION thread will take place within Shibusen premises, right after the thread AROUND SHIBUSEN.

Some things to note:

The day change will last an entire week irl, because we usually start accepting apps on a Sunday and it won't give everyone enough time to enjoy the day change otherwise.
► We will be adding a DORM thread for in the intro log so the newbies and their helpers can also interact while dorming and bunking together (or we might separate that into a new, related log, since that will be mostly OPEN to anyone stuck in Shibusen, new or veteran guests alike). For the purpose of this particular event, we can assume that Shibusen wasn't able to prepare very much for the sandstorm, so the men and women can end up dormed together by accident.
► You can take your rescuees into your character's residences, too, but makes sure the character passes by Shibusen some time to get their communicator and their meister/weapon thing checked. This latter part is handwaved on the Shibusen side.
► The sandstorm log will remain in the Intro Log post, but let's keep this for the guest characters getting lost in the city and their rescuers. If you want to do your own sandstorm shenanigans unrelated to the new guests and the dorms, please do so in your individual logs. We'll leave it up to you to make your own open/private logs!
► The sandstorm will last until the morning of the next day, but will dissipate around mid-morning. The new guests will of course be fed in the school premises, and while the dorms are a bit sparse (details in the log to go up), the food in Shibusen is good.
► For that matter, any veteran guest who ends up stuck in Shibusen because of the storm can also partake of the dorms and free food. Makes you want to volunteer, doesn't it!

For the convenience of getting your characters wandering into the city in the middle of the storm, let's say that the sandstorm came all of a sudden and took the city by surprise. Fortunately, it's all natural! This time. For reference on how it looks like, watch this clip from our neighbor Arizona.

If you would like to volunteer or change your volunteering thread, please do so here. Unless otherwise stated, anyone who put themselves in the Around Death City and Casualty Communal log will be transferred to the other threads. Thank you!

Feel free to use this post to coordinate your activities. Comment HERE for questions, or you can email us at soulcampaign@gmail.com.

If you know anyone coming in with a new character, you can link this over to them, too. We don't mind some early plotting if they prefer it.

Attention Soul Campaign!

It’s mini-event time!

Norway needs your help! Kishin Eggs have been eating human souls and growing stronger, and the threat has become too dangerous for the European agents to handle. The Norwegian government has officially requested Shibusen's aid to help rid them of their Kishin Egg infestation!

What does this mean for everyone? It means that there will be a special mission that players can sign-up for in one of the upcoming in-game days. Each pair who takes on this mission will earn two souls for the Weapon and two points for the Meister!

The event will take place on Feb 20 in-game. Due to the nature of this mission, this will only be opened to partnerships, since the entire area is host to a barrage of strong Kishin Eggs.

Players will need to sign-up on the Mission Board under the #154 mission thread here to participate! All pairs joining will need to either log the mission out or post a summary under the mission #154 threads for their activity to be counted.

The log format will be the standard format: [Character/s][Time][Open/Closed]. The threads will be the usual make your own style.

This entry can also be used to coordinate with your fellow players.

There will also be a surprise waiting for the fighters towards the end of the battle! Because of the increase in Madness and Witch attacks throughout the world, the planet has had a hard time coping with all of the extra strain. All of this extra stress will cause yet another earthquake, but the location of this one will be just off the coast of Norway. What this means for those involved is that there will be a tsunami washing through the area!

This natural disaster isn’t caused by the Witches, and because of that, the Shibusen fighters will get a warning in the few minutes leading up to the tsunami washing through. All is not lost though! And with the help of Black*Star, Tsubaki, Kilik, and Crona attending the mission, the partners willing to help, and Cybele, a deep trench and walls of cut-down trees will be made so that all the fighters (and the citizens along the coast of Norway) will be safe from the incoming wave.

If you want your characters to be swept up in the water, that is fine! But know that they will be soon rescued by Shibusen staff and returned to Death City.

Since there are two parts to this event, there will be two logs going up. One for the mission itself, and one for the tsunami.

We will be posting the logs on the day change, so you can disregard the log section of the mission sign up. You will need to sign up here though to be counted for the mission.

If you have any questions, please ask here or email us at soulcampaign@gmail.com.

Will have an emotional effect! You can choose one of the three, but you can only choose ONE:
♥ LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT. Develop a crush on the first person you see.
♥ LOVE 1000%. That object you kind of like? Do you like tea? Maybe that stuffed animal? Yeah, that's now your most favorite thing in the world. Can't part with it, can't stop drinking it, can't stop talking about it. You can choose the object!
♥ LOVE SONG. Basically it! You'll be singing love ballads at random intervals of the day! Break out into song with love in your heart!

CHOCOLATE THREE (shaped like a horseshoe):
Will have a forced truth effect! You can choose one of the following three, but you can only choose ONE:
♥ Level one! Simple enough! You cannot lie whenever you speak, but at least you can keep quiet about it.
♥ Level two! You cannot lie whenever you speak, but you can keep quiet about it. HOWEVER, when you try to, you'll end up speaking your lie like a true poet. Rhymes, flowery words, that sort.
♥ Level three! You absolutely cannot lie. If someone asks you a question, you'll find yourself blurting out your thoughts without restraint.

CHOCOLATE FOUR (shaped like Excalibur):
♥ Will taste like fish. :|b

Everything is opt-in, opt-out so if you don't want to participate, that's totally a-ok! If your character's the type to eat the chocolate icly, but you don't want the effects oocly, you can assume that each piece tastes like fish. You can totally mix up the effects too so if you wanna mix up level one truth and love at first sight, you can!

It can last up to two in-game days max (the 14th and 15th) but it can wear off whenever you want. Just have a bit of fun!

If there's any questions, ask here!

Feel free to use this post for any plotting needs!

Phase 3 Sign Ups Complete

Phase 3 Sign Ups Complete!

We filled up the sign up sheet with the rescuers and their respective rescuees. For the rescuers with no set target or group, we put them in together randomly with the rescuees with no or just one pre-determined rescuers, and then added a few more things that people can do.

These can still be changed if you want to move your characters around, but please inform us asap so we can adjust the list.

Please use this post to coordinate for the event further. If you have questions, you can ask here or email us at soulcampaign@gmail.com.

Phase 3 Sign Ups and Coordination

Attention, Soul Campaign!

This post will tackle phase 3 of the event, which is to rescue the kidnappees from the February 2 in-game raid on the city. The mission will happen on Feb 5, 2010 in-game (not Feb 4, we apologize about the mistake in the previous OOC posts). Feb 5 in-game will also be a week long irl to give everyone time to tag around without having to hurry with threads.

Right now, Death City is very short-handed in terms of agents and residents, and will need as many hands as they can get to go on this mission.

The kidnappers and their victims are in a series of caverns in the Grand Canyon. Shibusen’s scouts have tracked them there, but have not made any moves to indicate their presence. At the moment, they are installing a transport mirror there for the rescuers to use.

There will be two goals to the mission: to rescue the victims and to destroy the witch base (including the Morality Manipulation Machine). However, rescuers will find themselves facing Shibusen agents that have been manipulated to the side of the witches and it will be up to them to snap their comrades out of it or take them down as needed. The other victims who haven’t been MMMed will be in cages that serve as the kishin egg feeding pens.

More of that can be found in this post, with the final list of kidnappees and MMMed agents here.

Sign ups
The mission will be three-stars, and will give every meister and weapon participating (including the medics) five points/souls each. Characters who sign up but don’t appear in the log or post a summary of what they’ve handwaved will forfeit the points/souls. [Clarification:] Medics can choose to tag along the rescuers as runners/emergency medical attention or stay behind in the clinic. The mirror from the Canyon will lead directly to the clinic, where it will be safer for the injured to recuperate. All medics involved in the mission, whether they go to the canyon or stay in the clinic will get the points/soul, provided that they link the log or summary for the records.

Both partnered and unpartnered fighters will be welcome, but please note that unpartnered fighters won’t be able to handle kishin eggs at all and should travel with groups if possible. The zombies, spiders and ants will still be there (but less for zombies and kishin eggs).

To make sure that everyone will have someone to play with, we’ll assign rescuers with victims to fight/save. But! If you already have prior plans with one of the kidnapees, indicate it in the sign up so we can put the characters together. We’ll announce the finalized mission roster on March 23, 2012 for further plotting between players, so you have until then to sign up!

Please sign up here with the details in the text box below. If your characters are coming as a pair or in a group, please sign all the names up together in one comment so it is less difficult for us to sort them out.

We’ll be keeping track of the groupings here. We also have a listing of event links for reference.

You can use this post to coordinate with each other on the sign up. For questions to the mods, please ask here or email us at soulcampaign@gmail.com.

Phase 2 Volunteering Results

Unfortunately, there were too many volunteers, so we had to choose the participants via lottery. We used a randomizer to select 25 characters: 10 for getting thrown into the dungeon, 9 for being subjected under the Moral Manipulation Machine, and 6 for going through moral manipulation plus helping feed souls to kishin eggs. The volunteers selected for Phase 2 of the 3-part February witch attack are:

Thrown into dungeonNormal MMMHelp feed NPCs souls to kishin eggs
Nate "Near" River
Hades
Chosokabe Motochika
Kanji Tatsumi
Elena
Maito Gai
Cinderella
Mithos Yggdrasill
Takani Megumi
Nezumi
Asch the Bloody
Inoue Orihime
Uchiha Itachi
Hisoka
Tsunashi Takuto
Chrono
Ran Fan
Aqua
Raidou Kuzunoha
Mihael "Mello" Keehl
004 (Albert Heinrich)
Hyuuga Neji
Fransizka von Karma
Ryoki Tanaka
Kid

If you would like to see the rest of the results, click on the links.

Note that for characters being subjected under the Moral Manipulation Machine, it won't matter whether your character will agree to it or not, the witch's minions will force your character to sit on the MMM, which supposedly looks like a chair with shackles and a helmet that goes on the subject's head.

Characters going through the procedure and helping kill NPCs to harvest their souls to feed to kishin eggs can also go on patrols. We'll be putting up a log for all three groups to interact before Phase 3 begins.

You can use this post for further coordination. For questions, please comment here or email us at soulcampaign@gmail.com.

If you didn't get chosen, don't worry! We have a lot of events lined up for 2012! :3

Black Blood + Zombies + Kidnapping Event

Attention Soul Campaign!

This post will tackle phase 2 of our event. We know the post is long, but please read the entire post carefully, since we will be opening up sign ups for characters at the end of the post.

When, Where, and What’s Coming?

The event will happen on the 2nd of February in-game, and will be one week long irl.

At first light, sentries assigned to patrol the borders of the cities will see something in the distance:
► Corpses moving and shuffling in the direction of the city (zombies, yes). The witches have been raising the dead in the hopes of feeding their kishin eggs with it, but have ultimately failed to reap souls this way. Doesn’t mean they can’t use the reanimated dead for other things, though. Don't worry though, these zombies aren't infectious to people even if they're good at biting. Their mouths are dirty and rotten though, so you might want to get checked for rabies we only jest!
► A cloud of black birds flying in the distance. In the midst of this cloud will be witches on their broomsticks. They are here to take advantage of the city in its chaos and more besides.

The city alarms will go off, adding to the effects of the Black Blood. Fortunately, this will give the city some time to evacuate its civilians into its underground bunkers or in their houses.

What is the enemy going to do?

The enemy will hit the city by mid morning with a vengeance. The witches will make a quick and vicious attack at Shibusen, searching for the witch traitor that has been feeding our mission board’s Investigation missions in order to murder her.

The dead are mindless for the most part and have only one aim in mind: to eat anything living in order to acquire their souls. These will not turn into kishin eggs because they no longer have a soul to corrupt, but that won’t stop them from yearning for it.

Very, very large ravens and other carrion birds will be swooping at meisters and weapons, picking up as many Shibusen agents -- students and guests alike -- as they can handle. This is a kidnapping attempt, and the victims will be brought out of the city in haste.

Do you want to be kidnapped?

A. Mass Kidnapping Victims and the Morality Machine

The witches have obtained blueprints of Eibon's Moral Manipulation Machine and created a prototype of the device. As its name implies, it uses magic to manipulate a subject's morality. By lowering a person's morality, they become evil, and by raising it, it can make them good. Subjects who have had their morality lowered will experience increased madness, and they will find themselves capable of committing atrocities they normally wouldn't. Through the Moral Manipulation Machine, their personalities will change drastically, and they'll become more malicious and sadistic.

The witches are looking to pad their own forces by kidnapping a bunch of guests and using the device on them, so characters being kidnapped can undergo the procedure, or players can opt out but still get kidnapped -- their characters will get thrown into the dungeons to be fed to kishin eggs instead. Fortunately Shibusen and its agents (that means you guests!) will rescue them before it happens. Unfortunately they will witness other prisoners (mainly hapless NPCs) getting killed and being reaped of their souls.

The effects of the MMM aren't permanent. It's still a prototype, thankfully, so subjects will go back to normal the moment they're rescued and brought out of the base. Alternately, they can also run into rescuers or prisoners they have deep bonds with and hope that their friends can help snap them out of it; a big shock, or very good CR can bring them back to normal.

So what are the choices that Phase 2 participants have for this round?
► Get kidnapped, go through moral manipulation, and help the witches in any or all of the following tasks: help feed NPCs to kishin eggs, become minions and patrol the base, fight off Shibusen rescuers in Phase 3.
► Get kidnapped, opt out of moral manipulation, and get thrown into the kishin egg food dungeon.
► Stay in the city and form part of the rescuing force for Phase 3.

Note that the victims of the MMM will remember everything they did while they were evil, while the kidnap victims may be extremely traumatized by their experiences, so consider its effects on your character’s development before signing up for this.

We are also seeking players who are looking to drop their characters at this point and have no plans of reapping them in the future (characters that die here do not get reapped with their memories of Death City intact). For this event, players who want to drop their characters can allow them to be among those kidnapped, to be killed and eaten by kishin eggs. Please consider this option very carefully, since it may have drastic effect on your character’s CR -- if you’re willing, please indicate the character’s planned death in the sign up below.

B. Hexed Characters

This section is applicable only to the Hexed. We had characters similarly kidnapped in an event a long time ago, called the Hexed. The Hexed were experimented on and infused with some Witch magic that allowed them certain new abilities (changing to a specific animal change or one magical ability) in exchange for their sanity and planting the Seed of Destruction in them.

The Witches want their Hexed back and finish the work that was rudely interrupted by Shibusen and their agents in the past; unfortunately for them, they can’t replicate the work because their primary surgeons were eliminated. This means that the witch birds will be specifically targeting to pick up the Hexed on top of the other agents they are trying to take from the city.

What are they going to do to the Hexed? The witches will be making a (mostly hasty) attempt at injecting the Black Blood into the Hexed to speed up the process of turning them against Shibusen and releasing their second abilities. The Black Blood in higher levels in the Hexed will cause them to act violently, as if mad and psychopathic, responding in full to the pull of the Seed of Destruction within them.

This process is irreversible will may make the Hexed very, very twitchy in the future after their rescue. Fortunately, Black Blood does become dormant and Shibusen has its ways of keeping it down and somewhat under control. Like the original conditions of the Hexed, using their magic in any way makes them more and more prone to madness and the darker thoughts of the Seed in them.

Like with the other kidnap victims, we are giving plenty of options to opt out or pick only the experiences that you want for your character. Here are some of your options:
► The Hexed players have the option of avoiding the kidnapping by getting their characters saved before they are picked up, hiding in the shelters, etc.
► If they get kidnapped, they have the option of getting passed over for the Black Blood procedure and coming out of the experience relatively unscathed (they might have been mistakenly put in the feeding pits, for example), or get subjected to the MMM instead.
► Hexed undergoing the MMM will be more vicious than normal, but this will not unlock the second ability. The effects will be the same as the kidnappees in the earlier section, though more vicious than even those
► Hexed undergoing the Black Blood can choose if they want their characters to resist the change or temporarily join with the Witches and become their minions for the duration of the event.

Signing up to be kidnapped

Before signing up for the kidnapping, please make sure that you’ve given the decision enough thought. Either experiences may impact your character’s development significantly, so we can’t emphasize this part enough.

Please note that your characters, if kidnapped, will be gone from the city for at least 2 in-game days. There will be a log set up for the victims for Feb 3 in-game.
When you’re sure about signing up for the kidnapping and what you want to do, please sign up here using this template:

If we get too many volunteers, we will choose the characters via randomizer. The deadline of sign ups is March 10, 2012, USA time. We will announce the names on March 11, 2012, USA time, and you can also coordinate between the kidnapping characters then.

How does the day end?

Ultimately, the day will end in a narrow victory for Death City, either by driving the witches out or the witches willingly retreating. Without the witch necromancer to control them, the zombies will lose their animation and fall on their own. There will be a log for the attack, a log for the clinic, and a log for the cleaning up for the city.

The dead people won’t turn characters into zombies if they bite them, but are more likely to give infections and tetanus and all of those awful germs that you can get from a dead person’s mouth, so anyone who gets injured by a zombie will need to come in for vaccination and other medicine.

Phase 3, the rescue of the kidnapping victims, will be coordinated in a different post at a later time. The rescue will happen on Feb 4 in-game.

Everyone, please feel free to use this post as a planning post for the event.

For questions, please comment here or email us at soulcampaign@gmail.com.

Thank you!

Event: Phase 1 - Madness in the City

Event Post!

This event will begin on January 31 in-game.

One of the Witches’ cronies has sneaked into the city and dumped a load of black blood into the water reservoir of the city (the blue ring around the inner city in the location map). This waterway is where everyone in Death City gets their drinking and washing water, and thus will affect anyone who ingests the water then. If your character doesn’t drink water and doesn’t take baths, then they won’t be affected.

What is Black Blood and what are its effects?

The Black Blood is literally pitch black blood that induces insanity in the person who is infected by it. An extremely potent form has been used in the black sphere events in Europe last December in-game, but for the purposes of this event a more diluted formula will be dumped into Death City's waterways.

This madness erases or amplifies fear, which prevents hesitation or makes the weakness of will crippling, depending on the character. Someone who's normally well-behaved might find themselves acting demented and inebriated. Violent characters could become even more bloodthirsty. People who have good control over themselves are likely to keep hearing a little voice telling them to give in to the power of madness.

Madness brought about by the black blood can be disrupted by wavelength-based abilities, and anti-madness wavelengths such as the Calming Wavelength and Soul Apathy can help mitigate the effects. Soul resonance can momentarily ground partners against the madness, but black blood can infect people through resonance, so if one or both of a pair do not have strong enough willpower to resist it, it’s possible for them to end up infecting each other and actually aggravate the contamination the longer they resonate. Strength of will also comes into play when resisting the madness.

Because this is a diluted dose (else it would be obvious where it came from!), the effects will not be instantaneous. At least one to two days will pass before characters will start feeling the madness and showing visibly altered behavior. The effects will also not be permanent, and should fade completely after a week.

Black blood can also enhance speed and strength in battle, but the trace amounts that each character will be ingesting will just be enough to give each user a good adrenaline boost. Keep in mind, though, that the more someone uses the boost granted by the black blood, the more the madness will take hold. This might be interesting to use for the witch invasion, if you’re getting your characters to fight in that, and usually-weak characters may find themselves with mad, convulsive strength in short bursts of time.

Calling last Halloween’s Vector victims!

Last Halloween in-game, a number of guests were inserted with vector snakes that made them go wild in Death City. During this new madness event, these vector victims from that time will be able to detect the source of the madness and eventually pinpoint where it’s concentrated (re: the waterways). It will come as a faint, nagging feeling that heightens as more and more people become affected by madness and the closer they come to a water source (like the faucet, from the toilet, etc).

You can opt to have your character not notice this -- perhaps they are too busy to notice, or they have other things to worry about -- that's perfectly fine with us!

Though it won’t be fast enough to completely flush the madness from the city for Feb 2 in-game, this information will help Shibusen figure out how the madness got into the city despite Death the Kid’s shields still being up, and will hasten the investigation.

Logs and network posts!

The communicators will still work during the event, since the madness isn’t actually in the air but within each person. We will be putting up open logs for the event.

It’s up to you how affected you want your characters to be, for flexibility in plot. You can use this post to coordinate with each other.

Event follow up, Las Vegas needs your help!

After the Jan 22 earthquake, Shibusen will be asking for volunteers to help with the clearing up of Las Vegas. The Nevada government is focusing its help on the other harder hit cities, but could use some help in Vegas. The city's large population has made it difficult for the local personnel to handle them, especially as the recent earthquake has touched upon their madness.

A lot of the citizens and tourists are hiding in any nook and cranny they can find, while others have taken to running around like lunatics, and need to be herded to the shelters or hospitals waiting for them.

We'll be putting up a log located in Las Vegas next day change to those who plan on going, and can even stay there overnight if they want. If they stay, they will be housed in a dormitory there set aside just for them, in groups of approximately four people each room.

This is an optional side event and no sign ups are required, but you can use this post to coordinate with each other. Shibusen doesn't expect for there too be kishin eggs running amok here, so anyone can go, even non-partnered people.

If you have questions, please comment here or email us at soulcampaign@gmail.com.
