Event Aftermath: Madness Emitters

The multi-month long campaign to destroy the Madness Emitters in proximity to Death City is finally over! This will have several wide-spreading effects that characters will be able to act on, so here's a little "State of the World" post following the past few in-game weeks.

(Are you one of our newcomers? Or are you an old player looking to refresh yourself on everything that happened these past few months? Check out the Event Summary page here!)

In or around Death City
► Thanks to the Witch attacks and also robots several streets and blocks in the city are totalled, especially in the Outer Residential Quarters where the guest residencies are located.
► The island which carried the Nocturne Bazaar is now a fixture outside Death City; for the time being, it remains a danger zone, and guests are prohibited from going near until Shibusen's teams can determine it's safe.
► Several streets in the Shopping District are taken up by colourful tents -- hundreds of refugees from the carnival displaced by the attack are currently setting up shop with what little they have left and trying to get by until something can be done for them.
► In the near future, guests who've taken up residency in the Creeping Crypts will be asked by Shibusen to relocate to Casualty Communal, in order to free up space for the refugees. If you have characters in the Crypts and would like to specifically request a new room in the Communal, please comment on the Residencies page to claim one! Otherwise, an announcement with a list of random reassignments will be made this Friday (the in-game date of April 8th.)
► The park is filled with rubble fallen from the Bazaar during the battle. Morning training (which still occurs daily, even though it’s only ICly logged once a month!) might be a little messy for some time.
► Attention, competitors in the Bazaar’s Beauty Pageant: the winners have been determined! And despite their troubles, the refugees have managed to salvage the rewards they had prepared for the victors. Kanji Tatsumi and Yako Katsuragi can expect to have somewhat scorched and battered-looking golden tiaras and a cool 500D$ each delivered to them on the in-game date of April 8th.

The world at large
► Madness levels all over North America are falling rapidly, and the need for Kid’s protective barrier around Death City has passed. Travel outside the city is now safer than ever (so if you were planning that trip to Las Vegas, now would be the time...)
► The situation in Europe, Africa, and Asia has not changed. Shibusen agents (including guests) will still be sent there for the occasional mission.
► Europe in particular has been experiencing some trouble with anti-Shibusen sentiments. Several riots have broken out and, though they’ve been quelled, it leaves some leaders in other countries wondering if the same problems will crop up there too...
► South America’s Madness levels, on the other hand, are rising dangerously; some witnesses report what appears to be a physical manifestation of the wavelength, as a sort of miasma. Travel there has been closed off for the time being.

And last, but not least... Have you heard? Your fearless leader’s Weapon partners have acquired the Witch souls they needed: Patti and Liz have ascended to Death Scythe status! Go give ‘em your congratulations! (But be sure to save some for two of your own who’re rapidly approaching that same goal...)

So what happened with your characters during the event? Feel free to talk about it in the comments below!

Tiaras. Despite the double-win in the Crossdressing Pageant and Manly Competition, Kanji still felt a little like crap since he missed his chance to ride on that ferris wheel with Naoto. HE PROMISES THAT REALLY HIGH-UP THINGS WILL HAPPEN! And there's her birthday coming up, too!

But he's tired, sore, and overall not letting himself rest so long as there's something he can do. Not too many people can lift a lot of the heavier rubble in the clean-up efforts, after all, but it's cutting into his free time that should be spent finding new partners...

Lezard, in the meantime, is giddy! He managed to push back the Madness a little, and has a complete blast pushing Lily Ivory's buttons! The poor thing! Well, still, he's getting a handle on his Weapon Form and seeks to hit the Mission grindstone, especially now that there are new ones available... but first, dealing with La Llorona!

...why a summary write-up? Because I can, that's why. I just felt like rambling.

A quick question… Is there a deadline for the characters moving from Creeping Crypt? I’m considering whether I want to do a log based on that but Lily is already scheduled to be out of the city for a mission on the 8th.

And there’s some burnt greenery to go with the rubble in the park since Lezard went overboard with the fire spells while fighting a Black Clown thanks to Madness. Which Lily will have to fix eventually since she’s the gardener… I guess she’s going to be busy for a while...

Okay. Thanks!

Oh, and some other questions. If it’s safe for characters to travel out of the city now, how does that work in terms of transportation, how far they can go, getting permission, etc.? Since the mirrors are mostly for missions and characters can’t have cars. It occurred to me that if Lily found out about it, she might want to go out to search other cities for inventory for the vintage clothes shop she’s working on.

And on a slightly related note, will there be a calendar of what’s going on for the rest of the year? I haven’t decided on an opening date for the shop but wanted her to hold a vintage-themed party for the occasion. And was a bit worried I’d pick a date and then find out it conflicted with a big mission or be right afterwards, which would be kind of awkward. (I was originally thinking maybe around the holidays but with cleaning up after the invasion and moving, it might have to be pushed into early next year to be plausible in terms of in-game time.)

Ah, okay. I'll probably aim to have it around the holidays then!

So, basically, characters can hire a driver or something similar? What would be the options if she wanted to go to San Francisco, which would be like 500-600 miles? (She lives there in canon so I imagine she might be curious about this world's version.) Are there be any flights or would it be an all day trip by road? And what should it cost?

Ah, okay. I did not realize that about aircraft in the Soul Eater world! I mainly asked to help figure out how long would have to be blocked out for travel in addition to time spent at the destination and if the trip would still be short enough to not require special permission.

And that's helpful to know about the buses. Are there overnight options or are there only daytime trips? (I'm sorry this seems to be turning into an endless chain of questions!)

And would it be possible for her to have things she buys on a trip shipped back to Death City? I assume if she did go, it would also be a buying trip to acquire stock for her shop and she'd likely end up with more than she can carry back on her own on a bus. Unless car rentals are an option in the next town? She did know how to drive in canon and had a van she used for bringing things back to her shop.

Thanks for all the answers so far! It's been helpful!

I'm guessing it would be about the same cost-wise to rent a car for the trip rather than taking the bus? And that she'd need to take a driving test here before she would be allowed to rent a car?

Hmm... sounds like either way, this would be about a 3 day trip at minimum and would require finding someplace to stay a couple of nights, too. Guess it's going to be a while before she actually takes this trip or she won't have any money left for actually buying stock there and that would kind of defeat the point of her going!
