Feedback Post
Hello everybody!
It’s been a little over a month now since our new mod-team has been formed and become active and a lot of things have happened since then: the backlog of all those things that are needed to keep a game running has been cleared up and optimized, the annoying bug that kept borking the game profile page over and over again faster than you could say “It’s working again!” has been hunted down and taken care of (if you have time, give Orange a big Thank You for that, that thing was nasty!), App cycles and the handling of the intro logs were tinkered with to make them run smooth again and the first phase of a new plot that stars opponents that are neither witches nor kishin eggs has been run! This isn’t the end, though!
We know that there there’s still a lot more that can be done to make the game enjoyable for everyone and this is where we need your help, wonderful players of Soul Campaign!
We want your feedback!
We need to know where we and the game are currently standing to make it fun for everyone. To do that we need your feedback! Be it concrit, things you’d like to see more of, things that annoys you, wishes, opinions, questions you have, stuff that has caught your eyes,… Give it to us!
In the following you will find comments with headers about things that we’d like to hear your thoughts on as well as for suggestions for things that could be done in the future. That said, don’t hesitate to make your own threads with headers if you want to talk about something that we forgot to cover too! You want to talk about it, we want to hear it!! We’d also like to ask you to be brutally honest with us (I don’t mean kick your manners to the bucket, but don’t pull any punches just because we are mods either)! We all want to play and have fun here, so it’s just fair that each voice and opinion has the same weight.
Thanks a lot for participating!
Update-Edit: Wow, a REALLY BIG thanks for all the comments that we’ve gotten so far! They’re all very helpful and we are taking them very seriously – with the result that official mod replies will be a little slow as we’re considering all the points you’ve made carefully.
Juu, first of all we owe you an apology for what has happened. We’re still figuring out what went wrong and how to address the concerns you brought up. Please be patient with us.

General Feedback for the Mods
A short navigation help of which mod takes care of what:
Ami – The headmod. The one in charge of the overall plot, that the rest of us doesn't fool around too much and the one who usually takes care of the posts to the OOC comm. (except this time ;P)
Orange Crates - Our code whiz! She takes care of the main lists and also remade our profile after the pictures insisted to go poof no matter where they were hosted!
Sun – She handles the lists Orange isn’t handling like the Reserves Page or the Job listing and supports Ami and Laena.
Picaro - Helper-Mod, the team’s floater, AC-checker and usually the one who plays the devil’s advocate by poking holes into plot ideas, being a grumpy critical old lady and nudging the others whenever something gets forgotten, breaks or otherwise comes up.
NPC Mod: Laena. She's in charge of everything relating to the NPCs.
App Team: VG, Belmot and Ri. They help the mods to process the apps.
For more information look here and keep in mind that those positions aren’t written in stone – we all brainstorm for the plots that are being run, one mod can help out with the work of another and so on!
Re: General Feedback for the Mods
The Meister Record doesn't give that same information and it makes me, as a Meister player, feel as if I'm dependent upon the player of the Weapon to submit to the tally in order to make sure Akiha gets her Meister points. Which I normally don't mind since Akiha has a steady partner with the occasional other partner, but when I see the Soul Tally updated but the Meister Record remaining the same, I get concerned that Meisters may possibly be losing points through bookkeeping.
For example, prior to the last mission, Akiha was listed with 19 Meister points. The mission was a success and they netted 3 kishin eggs. It was submitted to the Soul Tally. I'm not sure exactly when the Soul Tally was updated this last week, but when I last checked it, the souls for Sion were added to her Soul Tally, but the Meister Record still shows Akiha at 19 points instead of 22.
This is where I'm sensing a disconnect since there isn't an easy way for Meister players to check exactly which mission points were added and which ones weren't when there is a difference between what we calculate using the Soul Tally and what is listed on the Record. This could just be a case of me seeing one before the other was updated - I know how much work is needed to mod a game and the bookkeeping of this one is a lot more than in other games - and I hope that is the case, but it may be a good idea to look into a different way to do the Meister Record, especially when a dropped character that was a Weapon gets removed from the Soul Tally, taking away the links to the missions the Meisters that partnered with those Weapon characters disappear.
Thanks for listening.

I was around when the Meister system was put in place. I wasn't a mod then, of course, but back then there was never intended to be a Meister Point system and, unfortunately, the Soul Tally table was created long before there was an actual need for a Meister Point system.
The Meister Point system only became a thing when the Mission system was changed so that people could fail missions. I don't remember what happened, but the Meister Point system was created to balance out the fact that Weapons could get multiple souls from missions while Meisters can't. That's probably why there is no link to the missions the Meister does because when the system was originally the only thing that was counted were the souls.
I just wanted to clarify that I'm not dismissing your concerns! I just thought I'd let you know why the system is the way it is.
Also, even if you play the Meister either part of the partnership can submit the thread to the Soul Tally page. Goodness knows with Keroro and Eve I'm usually the one doing the paperwork side of things! XD

As for the 22 points, that was a mistake on my part when I updated the tallies two nights ago since I was adding new Meisters to the list and jumping around between rows. It's fixed now, but I'll add a recount to my list of Things To Do to make sure the MP is up to date.

(And I know this is a very superficial thing but I kind of miss the old LJ comm layouts with the SE artwork. They were a nice reminder of the world the game is set in. While the current layout does include the SE logo and I have the impression the old mods changed it when we moved to DW due to coding issues, which was understandable, it feels rather generic in comparison.)
A small thing
The entire skin is horribly set up and very low in functionality. There's not even a date stamp visible on anything, the day by day view is jumbled because the text size doesn't match up anything so it's hard to read and it's all just such a mess... It also represses the toolbar on the top, so I can't even just click a button to change it to something viable.
Re: A small thing
I'm genuinely curious about how necessary anyone feels having date stamps is, because I've never really considered it a problem. (It doesn;t mean, of course, that you can't think that it is. I'm just curious as to how it would be of use to you in this game.)
I know as a player, I've never really cared about when the post went up OOCly so much as when it went up ICly.
Also, Fran, could I get a screencap of what you're seeing with the day-to-day view? Because when I do it on my browser it looks exactly like it does normally except with the OOC date written at the top... (also, wow, I didn't even realize what day-to-day view was...)
Re: A small thing
A lot of it is figuring out when things happened, how long it's been since the day change, how old the post is, things like that. It's not something I always need, but other times [like when I was writing up my feedback post] it's invaluable.
Re: A small thing
As for the lack of a date stamp, seeing as how the dates show up when you have the month-to-month view, I will probably not change the layout.
I'm not sure how well you know CSS, but a way to think of a layout is to think of it as building a house.
First: you think about what you will need and decide which elements to keep or to discard. In this case, given the IC=/=OOC day thing, a date stamp is something that isn't absolutely necessary.
Second: organize things so that everything you want fits nicely.
It sounds simple enough and it would feel like adding something you had taken out before should be simple too. However, if you think of this as a building, adding anything to a layout that's already been completed at this point is like asking the builders to put in another bathroom on the second floor after a house has already been built.
The analogy isn't perfect, but that's the best I can come up with at this point...
There is no space meant for the date stamp on the layout right now, so adding it would mean making a space for it, and that will in turn mean moving some other elements around or just editing them so that everything still looks nice together.
Nevermind the fact that Dreamwidth's code is pretty complicated already...
I think the lack of a date stamp works fine for what this game is right now, and if I can get the month-to-month view fixed then it should serve your purposes just fine without having to deal with the headache of changing the layout like that.
Would that be a satisfactory solution for you?
Re: A small thing
Honestly, if you can figure out what's repressing the top tool bar and get it out of the script, the rest of the problems can be fixed by me hitting the "view in my theme" link on there. The broken archive view is the bigger problem anyway.

If I had written it, the code would likely be all over the place, haha...

(I think whether it looks generic or not depends on the person. However, one reason I really love the layout is that it works the same on all the browsers I use. Considering that I use Firefox on my computer, Safari on my iPad and whatever the default browser on Android is (the one that isn't Chrome), that's actually pretty impressive. And I can't even remember what the old SC layout used to look like before LJ forced the mods to change the layout...)

(I admit I have no idea about coding and it's just a little thing I miss rather than an actual problem. I liked the profile pages being redone to be similar to the old one from LJ and I suppose that reminded me somewhat. If I remember right, the main community also had a small section from the profile artwork going across the top. Skirmish had an Excalibur picture, one of the other comms had a picture with some of the characters in school uniforms, and I can't remember what the last one was.)

(I think the problem that forced us to change the profile pictures is also one of the ones that'll make it hard to change the layout (besides the other one I mentioned) and it's that I don't have the graphics, haha.)
