Feedback Post

Hello everybody!

It’s been a little over a month now since our new mod-team has been formed and become active and a lot of things have happened since then: the backlog of all those things that are needed to keep a game running has been cleared up and optimized, the annoying bug that kept borking the game profile page over and over again faster than you could say “It’s working again!” has been hunted down and taken care of (if you have time, give Orange a big Thank You for that, that thing was nasty!), App cycles and the handling of the intro logs were tinkered with to make them run smooth again and the first phase of a new plot that stars opponents that are neither witches nor kishin eggs has been run! This isn’t the end, though!

We know that there there’s still a lot more that can be done to make the game enjoyable for everyone and this is where we need your help, wonderful players of Soul Campaign!

We want your feedback!

We need to know where we and the game are currently standing to make it fun for everyone. To do that we need your feedback! Be it concrit, things you’d like to see more of, things that annoys you, wishes, opinions, questions you have, stuff that has caught your eyes,… Give it to us!

In the following you will find comments with headers about things that we’d like to hear your thoughts on as well as for suggestions for things that could be done in the future. That said, don’t hesitate to make your own threads with headers if you want to talk about something that we forgot to cover too! You want to talk about it, we want to hear it!! We’d also like to ask you to be brutally honest with us (I don’t mean kick your manners to the bucket, but don’t pull any punches just because we are mods either)! We all want to play and have fun here, so it’s just fair that each voice and opinion has the same weight.

Thanks a lot for participating!

Update-Edit: Wow, a REALLY BIG thanks for all the comments that we’ve gotten so far! They’re all very helpful and we are taking them very seriously – with the result that official mod replies will be a little slow as we’re considering all the points you’ve made carefully.

Juu, first of all we owe you an apology for what has happened. We’re still figuring out what went wrong and how to address the concerns you brought up. Please be patient with us.

Is there really a point to having a date stamp visible though? When the game's IC date is pretty much never the same as the OOC date and the IC date is required to be put in the subject, it doesn't really feel like it's necessary to have to me.

I'm genuinely curious about how necessary anyone feels having date stamps is, because I've never really considered it a problem. (It doesn;t mean, of course, that you can't think that it is. I'm just curious as to how it would be of use to you in this game.)

I know as a player, I've never really cared about when the post went up OOCly so much as when it went up ICly.

Also, Fran, could I get a screencap of what you're seeing with the day-to-day view? Because when I do it on my browser it looks exactly like it does normally except with the OOC date written at the top... (also, wow, I didn't even realize what day-to-day view was...)

Month to month because I am a dingus and used the wrong words, phht.

A lot of it is figuring out when things happened, how long it's been since the day change, how old the post is, things like that. It's not something I always need, but other times [like when I was writing up my feedback post] it's invaluable.

I see. I'll try and take a look at the code when school isn't kicking my butt as badly.

As for the lack of a date stamp, seeing as how the dates show up when you have the month-to-month view, I will probably not change the layout.

I'm not sure how well you know CSS, but a way to think of a layout is to think of it as building a house.

First: you think about what you will need and decide which elements to keep or to discard. In this case, given the IC=/=OOC day thing, a date stamp is something that isn't absolutely necessary.

Second: organize things so that everything you want fits nicely.

It sounds simple enough and it would feel like adding something you had taken out before should be simple too. However, if you think of this as a building, adding anything to a layout that's already been completed at this point is like asking the builders to put in another bathroom on the second floor after a house has already been built.

The analogy isn't perfect, but that's the best I can come up with at this point...

There is no space meant for the date stamp on the layout right now, so adding it would mean making a space for it, and that will in turn mean moving some other elements around or just editing them so that everything still looks nice together.

Nevermind the fact that Dreamwidth's code is pretty complicated already...

I think the lack of a date stamp works fine for what this game is right now, and if I can get the month-to-month view fixed then it should serve your purposes just fine without having to deal with the headache of changing the layout like that.

Would that be a satisfactory solution for you?

I know veeeeeeerry little about CSS.

Honestly, if you can figure out what's repressing the top tool bar and get it out of the script, the rest of the problems can be fixed by me hitting the "view in my theme" link on there. The broken archive view is the bigger problem anyway.

Oh, I could do that easily. I just took a look at the code used and the person who made it kept everything that was repressed all neatly in one place.

If I had written it, the code would likely be all over the place, haha...

Totally. I will probably hold off for a few more days just to see if there's anything else to take care of though. Just so I can get them all at once. :3
