Upcoming Event!
Some of you may have noticed some of the hints we’ve been dropping, or may have heard rumors, but the big plot that we have been planning is finally underway! This will be quite a lot to digest, but please bear with us and read everything!
TYL Plot:
Back around the time that Adachi started to become a real nuisance for the city, a woman named Angelica Einstürzen arrived in Death City. She was approached by a Witch named Eruka Frogg who saw her potential, and believed she was the kind of person her current leader, a mysterious and unknown Witch, was looking for. (log) Later on, Crane was recruited as well. (log)
The three of them, as well as one Witch named Medusa, began a series of experiments on humans and other Witches to empower those who already had magic, and give the gift to those who didn’t---at a price: a complete obeisance to their creators, even going as far as to make it physically impossible for their completed subjects to disobey them.
Sometime after this, a Madness Wavelength passed over Death City, caused by Asura attempting to enter the it. He was unable to thanks to the shield, and was driven away by Shibuen forces. While the MW rendered most of the civilians temporarily insane, it also reactivated part of their latent powers, and made resonation sky rocket. Winry Rockbell and Miranda Lotto had been practicing resonation during this time, and when the Wavelength hit them, the combined power of Miranda’s reactivated Innocence and their resonation caused the two of them to open up a time warp and get sucked in, along with Kanda Yuu and Yuuri Shibuya. They were transported ten years into the future where the war is nearly over--and Shibusen, losing. Due to the experiments of this mysterious Witch, Medusa, Angelica and Crane these four have formed a powerful army of modified Witches which they’ve used to decimate most of Shibusen and the world. Asura has run amok, and much has fallen to Madness.
In the ten year span in which Kanda, Winry, Yuuri, and Miranda were gone, the following happened which led to the eventual downfall of Shibusen:
The first, and the “trigger” which started the chain of events, was the death of Spirit Albarn an act Risa and Arisa, two witches who had been secretly residing in Death City, took credit for. With Spirit’s death, not only did they lose their most powerful Death Scythe, but the morale of all of Shibusen was destroyed and made them easy targets for the first attack by three modified Witches. The attack was repelled, but not without incredible losses. Over the year more attacks continued, chipping away at the shield and Shibusen’s forces. Eventually the Madness Wavelength began to spread throughout the world, and the attacks became fewer, but this forced Shibusen to go underground in order to avoid it. Seeing the difficulty with which Shibusen was trying to care for their recruits, China formed a Splinter Group. Many of these who came with him were those who possessed the Calming Wavelength ability, and they were able to form a commune in some distant and secreted mountains where the joined souls of these people were able to make the land and people flourish to a degree.
Now I’m sure a couple of you are might confused and going a bit “WTF” at this, but continue reading and hopefully we will answer all questions, and quell any nervousness you might have about the plot. The present timeline will continue on as always, so if you do not wish to participate in this plot that is completely your decision.
Shortly there will be a post with a sign up sheet for you to fill for your characters.. We want to know what your character has done in the ten years that have passed, and how they have changed. Like we did with the powers, the mods will read everyone of these forms, and approve or ask for some change. There will be more information below that describes the situation of the world as it is, and give suggestions on what your character could have become/done.
Eventually the group that has been taken to the future will be returned by the efforts of your characters and when they do, the future will be altered, so in essence none of this will really happen. That means this is an opportunity for you to do things that you may not have wanted to before for fear of IC repercussions, such as turn your character into a Kishin Egg, make them join the Witches, perhaps you want to try pairing them with another partner, the possibilities are endless as long as they remain within reason.
To keep this event organized and from interfering with those who do not wish to participate, the event logs for it will be put up by mods as is norm, but all logging down outside of the events will also be kept to large group logs This doesn’t mean you can’t log individually with a person--we only ask that it’s all kept in one place. This will be explained more when the first non-event log goes up which should be roughly in one week from today.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask, we will keep you updated throughout the plot with new info as events unfold.
Setting:
Shibusen: Shibusen, has more or less become a giant underground barracks. The remains of the city are still above ground, but due to the Madness Wavelength that now permeates throughout the world, they are forced down under to retain their sanity. The underground is labyrinthine and accessible from about three places on the surface of DC, and heavily guarded.
Food is scarce due to the MW effecting animals and plant life as well. The area around the Death City is particularly plagued by people and animals that have fallen to madness and so is very dangerous. Experienced groups venture out to clear the area of these people and gather the bits of food that they can. Many fall back on a medicine developed that provides some nutrients, but even that is becoming more difficult to obtain.
Most of the people here are now 3 star Meisters/Death Scythes out of pure necessity. They are fighting nearly every day.
* Death the Kid heads along with Asuza Yumi and Stein.
* Other important figures: Marie, Liz, Patti, Sid, Nygus other NPCs.
Splinter Group: This group parted from Shibusen early on. The way many of the Shibusen personnel seemed to fall apart, the deaths experienced with that attack, and the disappearance of some people taken to be modified led them to feel that Shibusen things might be a bit better for all if they were to try and form smaller groups, and so they took matters into their own hands. An idea was proposed of making a CW commune far away to battle the encroaching madness, and they took all those who wanted along, leaving the rest behind.
The commune is a small, self-sufficient village located on an isolated mountain top, far away from Death City. Thanks to the CW their supplies are much better than those of Shibusen, and on occasion they send some to them. However as a whole they are significantly weaker than Shibusen for the very fact that they don’t experience constant confrontation with Kishin Eggs.

Witches: All turncoats will be considered, for simplicity's sake, to have joined the Witches That means all of them will probably be at the factory facilities, which by this point will probably be incredibly large. Well provided. Depending on the number of people who turn to this side
* Mysterious Witch
* Medusa
* Angelica
* Crane - these four are the ‘leaders’ so to speak, with Mysterious Witch on top and Medusa.
Considering that their goal is more or less complete most people who have turned to the Witches don’t particularly have an exact thing they are reaching towards; they just live safely away from the dangerous Kishin Eggs.
OH BOY THIS WILL BE A TL;DR
Because I don't know Soul Eater canon, it'll pretty much depend on your mods, who know it.
Mello and Near recently had a conversation about what side to take; while some are terribly happy that someone is giving them food and a place to stay in a new world at war, Mello is not the type of trust anyone or anything. Currently, he pretty doesn't believe in anything you've told them so far as in history-wise.
Witches randomly attacked Shibusen, but ironically, to make the Weapon a Death scythe, they need to eat a witch soul. So Mello doesn't discard that the Witches might be defending themselves and that Shibusen started all that crap because they didn't have better things to do than to eat Witches' souls.
So, in ten years, I'm pretty sure Mello had time to figure out who is "right" in the middle of all of this - by himself, since he doens't hear anyone and doesn't believe anyone.
If people in Shibusen are the crazy ones who enjoy sucking Witches' souls in order to be powerful, Mello would join the Witches (PLUS IT'S ALWAYS AWESOME TO BE PART OF THE WINNING SIDE, RIGHT?).
If, on the other hand, the Witches are the usual shounen-manga enemy and they have to actual reason to attack Shibusen apart the "we are bad and evil" explanation, while the Weapons simply eat their souls as a necessity to fight them, Mello would stay with them (HE IS NOT EVIL. NOT MUCH.)
So the question is, in Soul Eater canon, why are the Witches against Shibusen?
If it's not told, I won't join with Mello because I can't play him ten years later still wondering what side to choose.

As far as I can tell, the reason the two orgs are opposed is this: Witches suffer from the effects of the Sway of Magic, which is essentially the source of their powers. A side-effect to having magical powers is an inherent destructive nature; they destroy because their powers corrupt their minds. They're evil/insane.
This is more or less why Shibusen hunts them; they're a danger to people. Naturally, the Witches aren't going to appreciate being hunted for simply being what they are. There's no way to suppress the Sway of Magic, and very few witches obtain magic without the destructive side effects (notable exception in the manga is Kim Diehl). Powers and the side-effects seem to manifest with physical maturity, so Angela doesn't possess them either. Everybody else is crazy.

FOLLOW-UP: Can they be played at the same time?

2. They can be involved in both, and yes, as long as people sign up before the cut off date (aug 29) they can do it at the same time.
3. The only things that the present people will be affected by are the disappearance of the four people. So if your character isn't involved with them in anyway, no, they will not be.
4. For simplicity's sake, they do not work unless exposed to very high degrees of the MW which none if the settings are.

1. There are no apps in August, and none of the new characters coming in September will be allowed to join the event. The event has been designed to remain fairly low-key, in that it will mostly be in logs, so it should be easy enough for the new people to ignore. The TYL arc itself will only last a few weeks -- the rest of the plot happens back in present time.
2. There are no working communicators in TYL, hence no network/community posts. All TYL logs will be put up by the mods.

Pawns - They would be people more connected to the Witches, and do more for them, but are tricked/manipulated by them in some manner so that they can't usurp them in some manner.
Slaves - would be people who have been turned into modified Witches, or forced to eat human souls to become a Kishin Egg. These people will are sentient and have a will of their own, but physically cannot disobey the Witches.

Modified witches will need to associate themselves with an animal. You can choose this! You can have two weakened abilities that also relate to this animal. The original witches don't want you modded ones to be stronger than them after all! Please note that abilities should try to reflect the animal itself much like Angela's (chameleon) invisibility and Medusa's (snake) Snake Bomb. However, they don't HAVE to be related.
You do still have your meister/weapon abilities, I do believe but I am not sure of the modifications. I will talk to the other mods and get you a more clearer answer on that! \o

QUICK WORLD QUESTION since I saw Celty wants to be a delivery girl and I think Kida would be down with that but. do mirrors make for instant transportation anywhere in war torn future or would messengers/etc have a use?
