Event Coordination: Nocturne Bazaar and Mission 157

Alright, Soul Campaigners! Plotting for the rest of this month's events is underway, and this one is going under a cut because it's going to be big.

If it seems like a lot of information at once (because it is) please bear with us! Since all of these events are connected to each other, we decided it was best if you guys got to see the whole scope of the thing before getting to plotting. A SparkNotes version of the details in the post, as well as a timetable of events are provided at the very bottom. Should you have any further questions or need any clarification, you're more than free to ask in our usual sub-thread below. And so, without further ado...

The Nocturne Bazaar

Some of you old hats may remember the traveling carnival from way back in the game's history. Well that giant floating island is back in town, here to drop anchor on Friday, October 26th (the in-game date of April 3rd) and bring fun and games to Death City once more! Just hop on a floating gondola and make your way up to the festivities!

Events will remain very much the same, with only a few minor changes.

GAMES
Dunking Booth
Target Shooting
Whack-a-Mole
Thrill Rides
Giant Slide
Torture-go-Round (not as horrible as it sounds.)
Goldfish Scooping
Tug-of-War
Oversized Foam Q-Tip Battles
Three-legged Races
Beer Drinking Contests (not for the kiddies, sorry guys.)
Bumper Cars

OTHER
Cross-Dressing/Beauty Pageant
Fortune Telling (can be as wildly off-base, or as creepily accurate as you'd like it to be!)
Tunnel of Love
Bungee Jumping (off the island! Yikes!)
Haunted House
Bazaar Shopping

Unlike two years ago, when people created logs for their own events, there will be three logs provided for the carnival. Since the Cross-Dressing/Beauty Pageant and Tunnel of Love were so popular last time, they will be once again receiving their own logs. The third log will just be a catch-all for the rest of the activities people would like to play out!

Normally the carnival is a three-day event, but characters will only find themselves with two days at the most to enjoy themselves because...

The Third Madness Emitter

It's never that easy, is it? There have been rumors bouncing around the city that Shibusen has been having difficulty pinning down the last of three Madness Emitters that they've been working to destroy -- decoys in the form of high-level kishin eggs, moving signals, and further Witch interference are some sources of these troubles. But the real reason is that the enemy has been taking the fight to them. Surprise! Unbeknownst to the carnival folk of the Nocturne Bazaar, their floating island has secretly been hijacked to store a temporarily deactivated Emitter.

Halfway through the festivities on the second day, the Witches will reactivate the device, slowly but steadily ramping up a Madness Wavelength that'll soon start to affect the revelers.

What this means for you players is that you'll be able to choose what sort of carnival experience you'd like your characters to have! Would you like them to giggle through a haunted house like it's all just fun and games? Or would you like them to relive their greatest fears as if the bazaar's suddenly found a way into the darkest recesses of their minds? Do you want them to go on a simple thrill ride, or a metal death machine? Be creative!

So, to summarize, here is the basic log structure for all carnival-related events spanning the week of 10/26 - 11/1. Day changes will not be altered; time will pass as normal during this period.

Cross-Dressing/Beauty Pageant
This will take place only on the evening of the first day, and will be unaffected by the Madness.

Tunnel of Love, Main Carnival
These will both be logs covering the span of two days, and so you'll be able to indicate in a subject header on what day your thread takes place. Depending on when you set your threads, the setting may be significantly more or less sinister.

By the third day, the Witches will make their plans known, and there's where the next mission comes into play.

Mission 157

The enemy is pulling out all their stops and launching an all-out surprise attack on BREW's defenders who've been such a thorn in their side. They have no other aim than to cause as much death and destruction as possible!

The Emitter itself is located in the fortune-telling building, a large structure in the middle of the island. Early in the morning of the third day of the carnival, on Friday, November 2nd (the in-game date of April 5th,) Death the Kid will rally all available fighters for an assault on the assaulters and see the end of this weeks-long campaign.

The mission at a glance:
► Like the last two missions, the day change this one takes place on will be lengthened to one week.
► But unlike the last two missions, Kid will only be allowing partnered pairs to join the assault on the island.
► As usual, this will be classified as a three-star mission.
► The medics will have their usual thread, and they are free to act as runners or back-up during the mission.
► Players are free to NPC their own enemies as usual! The only exception to this rule is if a Witch encounter is requested.

What can my characters expect to face?
► Intense levels of Madness -- though that's nothing new, right?
Black Clowns. If you thought regular carnival clowns were awful, check out these guys.
► Oversized crow familiars that'll swoop down and attempt to carry fighters and drop them right off the edge of the island, not to mention the Witch that commands them. Very few pairs will be able to stand their ground against her; the only real option is survival.
► Civilian presence, which has not been a problem on the last two missions. While the Witches are hostile, the residents of the island are not! And though many of them have taken refuge, there may still be stragglers in the streets. Characters will have to fight carefully and give innocents a chance to escape off the island...
► ... Because it's not exactly the most stable of battlefields. Buildings will shake, the ground will crumble, and as the fight drags on, pieces of the island itself will break off and shower the unlucky portions of Death City that happen to be below! Eventually the entire floating metropolis will go down in the desert, and pairs will be forced to escape on the gondolas on which they arrived.

Rewards:
► 3 Meister points / souls (for Meisters and Weapons, respectively.) Though there are no kishin eggs to be found on this mission, Shibusen will pull from their stock of souls to redistribute!
► 750D$ per person
► Weapons may choose not to eat their souls, but they cannot be traded amongst each other.
► In order for your characters to receive the rewards, you must at least provide a summary of what happened on the Mission Board. A direct link to the thread you should reply to on the Board will be provided in the comments below.

Those of you who play unpaired characters may wonder what there is for you to do during all this craziness... But don't worry! There's plenty of craziness to spare!

The City Invasion

The Madness Emitter is really only one portion of the Witches' assault on their real target: Death City and the people who live in it. While the strongest officially-paired partners will take care of the heart of the Witch force through Mission 157, it's up to the rest of the fighters to hold the line!

A log for the characters remaining in Death City will occur simultaneously with the log for Mission 157. Since the attack occurs on such short notice, they'll simply have to grab their closest friend (or the closest blunt object) and fight for their lives and their city!

What can my characters expect to face?
► Significant levels of Madness -- the barrier that Kid would normally keep up to protect the city won't be able to hold while he's helping with the fight. Hopefully some of that training you guys have been doing has paid off...
► Overlarge scorpions, spiders, and various armored arachnids. If you're not careful, you may also run into the Witch guiding them. Once again, characters will not be able to go toe-to-toe against her. Should they encounter her, escape would be the smartest option (but not the mostbadass one.)
► Black Clowns in some number. Though they'll be a very significant challenge for inexperienced pairs, there's a slim chance that they can be taken down...
► If characters happen to be fighting in the Outer Residential Quarter Three (containing the park, church, and hot springs), they may find themselves rained upon... By large pieces of island. Watch your heads! From there, they'll also get a nice view of the Bazaar crashing in the desert just outside the city limits.

Rewards:
► 3 Meister points / souls (for Meisters and Weapons, respectively.)
► 500D$ per person
► Weapons may choose not to eat their souls, but they cannot be traded amongst each other.
► While characters will not be officially joining a mission, a sign-up thread will be included on the Mission Board so as to properly track rewards for the Soul Tally. A direct link to the thread you should reply to will be provided in the comments below!

City invasion log

► During the in-game dates of April 3rd and April 4th, characters will be able to attend the carnival. The reactivated Madness Emitter will make the bazaar during all of April 4th seem far more sinister and corrupted than the day before. These day changes will be unaltered.
► Mission 157 will occur with little notice on the morning of April 5th. Only paired partners may attend. This day change will last one week.
► During the Mission, all people who are required (or chose) to remain in the city will come under attack.
► The Mission will culminate with the destruction of the Emitter, the elimination or retreat of all Witch forces, and the evacuation of all island residents.
► The island will fall and crash just outside the city's walls and remain there.

There's a lot to talk about here, so please make sure to indicate what your characters will be doing on each day when you put together your plotting threads! Thank you for your patience, and happy plotting!

Kanji & Lezard

[personal profile] topgun_textiles 2012-10-19 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Tifa's gone home, so Kanji is partnerless. He's a Meister with a fair bit of mission experience and is still working out the bugs in his ability to resonate.

He's also capable of dual resonance, so any Weapon buddies who want to stick together can take him up to whup some Black Clown ass!

As for the Bazaar proper... he's a bit bummed over recent events, so he'll force himself to go and try to enjoy himself. HOW-E-VER... someone absolutely must sign him up for the beauty pageant. Kanji-chan must make a return, you see~

Lezard will peruse the Bazaar with little interest in much so I don't see him really having any fun there... but he WOULD love to kick some clown ass as well!

Rose is going to be making the smuggest post after all this shit is over because wow was she right in calling this way ahead of schedule.

ANYWAY

She's still in full hermit mode and so won't be going to the bazaar unless somebody forcibly drags her there. Fun is for people who have friends and aren't horrible balls of repressed emotions.

However, she will be out kicking ass in the city once the attack starts because as much as she dislikes Shibusen she really needs something to take out her pent-up frustrations on. She's hung onto the stilettos she nabbed from the Arizona mission forever ago and so will be running around smacking down as many baddies as she can, often without regard to if she actually can take them on alone or not.

I am totally up for her running into people and/or being forced into some emergency partnerships. She's a meister with Soul Experience, so if your weapon is capable of their big finishing move she'll be able to perform it right off the bat.

She is also really really mentally closed off during resonation so uh. Expect there to be a lot of dissonance hahaha.

...Yeah, no. Can't stay on hiatus when amazing things are happening.

Assuming I manage to catch up with the game, Raidou's going to be feeling a little down about the last mission hitting where it hurts and worry about his friends. Clearly this means someone needs to drag him to the carnival. Wouldn't mind him having his second encounter with a Black Clown, either! It might even not be a disaster this time, who knows.

Waka is... on a bit of a trial, because I'm having trouble writing him and I just generally don't know what to do with the guy. I do want to give him a go though, so... I expect he'll be off the island during the attack and defend the city with whoever happens to be around? Anyone interested?

Oh. Wow. Maybe it's cause I'm new but I can't say I saw this coming at all. This is fantastic.

Alright now for what this guy is doing. Atem would likely need some persuading to get to the Bazaar but I would like him to be there because he needs to get out more. He also needs to win a goldfish for reasons okay. I wouldn't say outright dragging is necessary but he'll at least need to hear what it's about.

As for the rest of this party. Atem is a partnerless meister. I'd love to have him find a partner for the event but I should point out that he's going to be rather susceptible to madness. It would also be his first mission however he does have plenty of battle experience back home so not completely useless I promise. This could honestly work as well or as disastrously as wanted. Otherwise I'll just have him helping out in the city maybe to partner up on the spot at some point.

Who wants bazaar shenanigans with Bakura? Because he's totally going and going to try and drag all his friends with because it sounds fun.

When the shit hits the fan, he'll (likely) be in the city on the ground running around and grabbing anyone he can work with to take out the critters that he'll likely be running like crazy from. Anyone who wants to partner with him for either a short term "SMITE THE BUGS TRYING TO KILL ME" or a longer term trying to protect others thing, lemme know!

And because he's got a good streak going with falling buildings, totally going to have him be in harms way when the floating city starts to fall and dodging like mad.
badcop: (Ain't got time for this)

[personal profile] badcop 2012-10-19 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Barricade isn't really going to care about the carnival, so he probably won't head over except to vote for Qilby's beard. Once the Madness and the invasion starts, he'll be wanting to fight for himself and tear shit up in the process. He'll also go looking for Demona or Qilby - he knows he can resonate with them and fight off the Madness! Any other run ins or battles are more than welcome :)

I will probably ship Zeratul over to the carnival, since he'd like to see more of human culture, strange as it may be! He might not be available for the actual battle, due to Reasons, though I haven't decided yet. He's wide open other than that though!

Demona

[personal profile] pmsgargoyle 2012-10-19 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Demona doesn't give two shits about the Carnival, but she will make sure to follow the Pageant because she wants Qilby to win.
However, she will only go to the island when the Pageant is on, else she will go back to her church and stay there while hating you all.
Sorry, but you really won't see her often, but you may talk to her during the contest.

NOW. When the battle starts, she will go back to the island to kill and destroy things with londo c:

Kid here is going to be more concerned about the Emitter to be a good carnival goer, but if anyone wants to force him out or something YOU HAVE MY PERMISSION |D He does need to relax and lighten up, yeesh :|

As for the mission itself, he'll help out in the city at first but his main focus will be hitting the carnival.

Matt

[personal profile] 3rdbest 2012-10-19 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
SO Matt hates carnivals! He will stay away from it (aka, by the edge of the island, or by the flying gondolas or far away from people), but he wants to see if Mello and/or Near manage to win the Beauty Pageant.
Either way, i'm always up for plotting! You can either try to pull him into the fun, or just talk or anything you'd like!

Now, the attacks!
As if the last mission wasn't enough, Matt is willing to fight. He is an unpartnered (at the moment) Weapon who will be looking for a Meister during this. Matt is a Portal gun, who can shoot normal bullets and portals. Anyone who would like to wield him during the mission, let me know!
I'm fine with either defending the city or going on the mission 157, btw.

Disciple

[personal profile] scribes 2012-10-19 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
OH BOY OH BOY

That sure is a lot of stuff that is happening. I definitely want Disciple to get out there more. She will definitely be attending the carnival, and since she is currently unpartnered she won't be able to go to the island once the attack begins but she will be around the city helping anyone that she can.

I have plans to partner her with Flora but that won't be until some more development so if someone wants to temp partner with her to take down some clowns and sp8ders spiders let me know.

If there are any other characters out there that know sign language I'd like for her to meet them as well since it'd make communication a lot easier. She's been having some speech therapy but since it's technically only been a month since she has arrived speaking is still difficult for her.

Mello, unbeknownst to him, has been nominated for the beauty pageant, but he'll probably have to be dragged/bribed/coerced into attending. Then he's going to do the mission with Near, and probably get hurt, because he's had it too easy for a while.

Psii will probably go to the carnival and stuff his face. Once the madness hits, though, he's going to flip out. I'm thinking of having this happen in a ride, but I haven't decided for sure yet. Also, he's a Weapon without a partner, and I'd totally be up for emergency team-ups.

If you want either of them for anything, or if you'd like to volunteer your character to talk Psii down, let me know!

Okay! So, I know I haven't gotten him around much (and still have backtags to take care of for him) but Katou is the one to go to if you want your chara in a pageant that they wouldn't sign up for. Basically he's going to be a little bastard and chill by the sign ups and anyone he sees that would be interesting in either one of the pageants he's going to get their name (from them or from someone else) and sign them up.

A life, he has one not.

Eridan is probably going to be signed up for the crossdressing one because I can't not do that. Also undecided if he's going to be able to go on the main mission or stay behind, so I'm up for ideas to work with on that end of things. Also he's a Meister.

Further more, the most dangerous one. So. Who wants to be around Stein when shit gets real? Because there is a chance it's not going to be pretty unless someone gets a metaphorical leash on him.

So the carnival did come back from that Adventure mission. Geez...

Naoto has her partner, Minato (thought he's currently on Hiatus), but will be available for emergency meet-ups and partnerings if they're separated. Rejection in an emergency shouldn't be an option (also, she will kick you in the face for being a moron). As for carnival antics, horrible, but she may be suggested for the beauty pageant and disappear away later. Other shenanigans open for the planning.

Amaterasu will be wandering around, trying her best to participate, but they're not made dog/wolf/canine accessible. Still, when things begin going weird, she'll be staying closer to people than they might find comfortable. She's an unpartnered Meister so she's up for grabs any Weapons!

Rosalia will try all the games! But she'll want to go into the Haunted House with someone. This can happen when things go down so I note she's a Weapon (Demon Ribbon) able to wrap around the hand and deliver a virus to Kishin eggs/enemies.

Kaworu will be all over this carnival and thoroughly enjoy it, at least on the first day. And if anyone wants their characters to get suggested for the pageant and he has CR with them then let me know, he would happily sign up anyone genuinely thinking it would be a fun experience for them.

During the mission, he'll probably stick to helping fight things off in the city, and parter up with someone if it turns out they can resonate. If there are any Weapons that might need a temporary partner, he is available! He's a Meister with the ability Soul Siege, meaning his soul can form an impenetrable shield around him, so he's also able to help out if anyone runs into trouble they can't handle, even if he doesn't have a Weapon.

Auron will be slightly curious about the carnival but not stick around forever unless someone ropes him in.

Since he doesn't have a partner, he can't fight on the island but he's open for emergency partnerships (unless Yamazaki wants to firmly get in on a mission here!). He's a Meister with Soul Armor ability.

Alucard will have be dragged to the carnival but might end up enjoying himself. He will not be participating in any beauty pageants, thank you. He will most likely to be paired with Raidou to beat the snot of a Black Clown. Or get beat down.

Zero is an unpartnered Weapon in the form of a Beam Saber who would be up for emergency pairings in the city. And probably check out the festival too.

Hades and Yami Bakura are both free and I have no clue where to put them yet, which means that they can be pretty much anywhere for this event! Hit me up, I want all the plotting and shenanigans ever!

Yami Bakura is a partnerless Meister with Soul Tracking (the ability to sense where others are) and a rather sadistic and risque fighting style.

Hades is a Weapon that can protect from Madness Wavelengths by creating its own field of terror/madness and which is imaginably difficult to handle. He is partnered with Ed, but since Randomly-Wandering-Off could just as well be his middle name he will be all over the place and can be found partnerless as well. I'd really love if he somehow got into a life-threatening situation during this, since this will be when Poseidon vanishes and I finally want him to realize that he -isn't- immortal here anymore and shake him a bit up over it.

Once again CR-S01 will be in the medic area assisting people, but I am always willing to toss him elsewhere. He is a Meister who knows his ability, but he has no battle experience. If it is to help people, he will partner up if he has to.

Winters does not have a partner. He is a Weapon, a double-bladed sword to be exact, and he will be affected by Madness. If you want to try and partner up with him or fight him or whatever fits into your own plot, hit me up for it.

Yako will be thoroughly enjoying the carnival in all it's glory! And a certain friend of hers will end up entering her in the pageant, which will be quite...interesting. Other than that, her first day will mostly be sightseeing and eating! Allllllllllll the eating. No food stall shall be left unvisited.

She doesn't have a Meister, but she is fairly easy to Resonate. She doesn't take the Madness very well, and probably will cling to the first available Meister. So if anybody wants a seven-foot energy-sucking/lashing whip, she's your girl.

Ange normally wouldn't be attending the carnival since what is having fun, is that a thing people do.. But even if she didn't go here, Yuri would probably end up dragging her there, so she'll be around the carnival if anyone wants to thread something there with her! Even if that loser ended up signing her up without her permission for the beauty pageant DARNIT YURI. Both people like her and outgoing people work for running into her since she can complain together with the former and be dragged around by the latter.. I'm up for anything, really, come at me!

During the latter half of the event she'll be fighting in the city together with Yuri, so if anyone wants to run into her or probably both of them during that, just let me know too!

Yuri, as the above post says, will be mainly going around the carnival with Ange, though there will be moments when you can catch him on his own if you'd like to thread with him there!

Same goes for the fight in the city, though it'll most likely be them together in that case.

Kratos will, surprisingly, be going to the carnival and stuff. He's sort of been watched like a hawk and not gone outside for the past few weeks so any reason to get out of the house is a good reason. Anyone who wants to bug him or drag him places or get him to win them prizes knock themselves out~

During the attack, he'll be partnering up with Lloyd and kicking butt while still slightly beat up from a previous mission.

Taiyou will definitely be going to the bazaar! He'll show up with his new partner Yuuichi, but they'll probably split up for individual threads. Or if someone wants to do a three-way thread I guess that's okay too?

No idea yet if they're going on the mission.
